Hello Monday By The Bay

Kinda like Beverly Hills 90210….but more north, and slightly more professional.

HELLO MONDAY/DEPT

We never thought we’d open another office, but we’ve had an increase in the amount of collaborations on the west coast, so it started to make sense. We never documented our early adventures in New York – finding a space, meeting new people, our first successes, failures, and learnings etc. While it’s too late to do on the east coast, it’s not too late on the west coast. So this is our story, or at least the beginning of it…

Ah. Sunny San Francisco. Nothing quite like it! Except when you arrive in the middle of a monsoon, and it’s rainier and greyer than the dank old drizzle-fest you just left behind in Europe.

Suppose that’s just life’s irony, but in the grand scheme of things the promise of a springtime to top all springtimes, after the rain has cleared, is enough to get super-psyched about the amazing challenges that lay ahead.

We are about to establish our first ever Hello Monday 5 digit postcode starting with the number 9. We’ve promised to send vitamin D infusions to our fellow Mondayteers from time to time, and anti-social hours phone calls on a regular basis. You’re welcome. Now for the juicy bits.

Establishing a base in a new city isn’t an easy feat, especially when one’s knowledge of the area is limited and one’s connections even more so. We’ve been lucky enough to be supported in our first couple of weeks by the fab, dog-loving ROI-DNA, who have given us a little spot to pitch up in while we flesh out what our future collaborative efforts with them might look like.

But let’s address the elephant in the room, shall we? What about our office space? Where we will be based? What’s our phone number? How San Fransiscan is Hello Monday now?

Well, let’s say that we still have some figuring out to do. San Fransisco is renownedly one of the most pricey cities in the USA. Rent is sky-high and spaces are highly sought after (not to mention, a little on the dingey side of things in some cases), so we need to get all of our ducks in a row before we make any major commitments.

Our initial thoughts are to establish ourselves in a suitable co-working space where we are able to gain valuable working relationships from the people and businesses we surround ourselves with, and from there we can start to shape Hello Monday San Francisco into the west coast babe we expect her to be in years to come.

This is our constantly transforming vision, so we’ll talk about this journey every month. We’ll call the section “The Elephant”, which feels appropriate — it’s a large undertaking, it’s exotic, it’s part of the Big 5 (although we might need one more office if we want to use that reference…), and it’s an almighty, powerful creature with great value to our company culture and future opportunities. We are very proud of our elephant, and extremely excited about it’s future and the journey we’re all taking together with it.

So that’s the beginning. Over and out from the west coast.
